Stone Vanguard – Black Myth: Wukong

Stone Vanguard is not an “easy” boss, but he’s not unbeatable either. He belongs to the Yaoguai King type, appearing in Chapter 2 of the game, specifically in the Fright Cliff, Rockrest Flat area. In terms of difficulty, I rate Stone Vanguard as Medium-Hard, depending on your experience and combat skills. But believe me, after reading this guide, you’ll find him much “easier to handle.”

Preparation

Before “engaging” with any boss, especially Stone Vanguard, thorough preparation is key. Although Black Myth: Wukong doesn’t have a clear level system, don’t go in “empty-handed.” Take your time to explore, complete side quests, collect items, and “upgrade” yourself before facing this stone giant.

Equipment

Weapon: The choice of weapon depends on your playstyle. However, with Stone Vanguard, I recommend prioritizing weapons with fast attack speed or the ability to attack from a distance. Thrust Stance (one of the character’s stances) is a very worthwhile consideration, allowing you to maintain a safe distance and “chip away” at the boss’s health from afar.

Armor: There are no specific armor requirements, but remember to upgrade your armor if possible. A “tankier” armor set will help you survive longer against Stone Vanguard‘s devastating attacks.

Items: Bring healing items and power-up items (if you have them). Don’t be “stingy,” use them when needed to ensure safety and increase your chances of winning.

Skills

Immobilize (a skill that stuns the opponent): This is the “golden key” to countering Stone Vanguard. Using this skill at the right time will help you interrupt his attacks, creating opportunities to counterattack.

Wandering Wight (a skill that summons a spirit to attack): Similar to Immobilize, this skill can also interrupt Stone Vanguard‘s attacks, while also dealing additional damage.

Cloud Step (a dodging skill): This skill helps you quickly escape Stone Vanguard‘s attack range, especially his ground slams.

Area-of-effect damage skills: Useful when dealing with the small Rock Guai that Stone Vanguard summons.

Defensive buff skills: Help you reduce the damage you take.

Transformation

Rock Guai (using Azure Dust): You can transform into a Rock Guai, accumulate Might by taking damage, then use the Rockfall skill to deal massive damage to Stone Vanguard. However, remember that Stone Vanguard is immune to the Burn effect of Red Tides.

Stone Vanguard Boss Fight and Guide

This is the “money” part of the guide. We will “dissect” each of Stone Vanguard‘s attacks, point out how to avoid them, when to counterattack, and tactical tips so you can “secure victory.”

Attack and How to Avoid

Leaping Strike: Stone Vanguard jumps up and attacks you with one arm first. Use Cloud Step to dodge to the side, avoiding his trajectory. Immediately after he lands, attack his side or back.

Slam (Single/Double): Stone Vanguard slams one or both hands down, creating shockwaves.

Single Slam: Cone-shaped area of effect in front of him. Use Pillar Stance at the right time to block the shockwave and counterattack, or use Thrust Stance to maintain a safe distance. Immediately after the shockwave dissipates.

Double Slam: Wider area of effect, surrounding Stone Vanguard. Use Pillar Stance immediately after the shockwave dissipates. If you create the pillar (Pillar Stance) too close to Stone Vanguard, you may be knocked back, although you won’t take damage.

Glowing Arms: Stone Vanguard‘s arms glow, signaling an attack with a delayed detonation. Don’t rush to counterattack! This is a trap. Step back, maintain a safe distance, and wait for the explosion. After the explosion ends, attack from a distance with Thrust Stance or regular attacks.

Repeated Stabbing: Stone Vanguard repeatedly stabs the ground with his two hands alternately, followed by a strong slam with both hands. Continuously dodge the stabs, focusing on the final slam. After he performs the final slam, counterattack.

Summon Rock Guai: Stone Vanguard summons small Rock Guai to attack you. Back away and dodge continuously, or use Cloud Step to move flexibly. Stone Vanguard will often join the attack simultaneously with the Rock Guai, be careful. Focus on dodging and eliminating the Rock Guai first, then return to attacking Stone Vanguard.

Stone Vanguard can be a challenge, but with thorough preparation and the right strategy, you can absolutely overcome it. Remember, this is a game, try different tactics, and don’t be afraid to “fail” a few times. The important thing is that you learn something from each “fall.” Good luck on your journey to conquer Black Myth: Wukong! And remember to come back here if you need any further assistance!
