Surely, fellow gamers “grinding” Black Myth: Wukong have heard of, or even been utterly “destroyed” by, the hidden boss Shigandang, right? It’s not for nothing that he’s ranked as a Yaoguai King. This is a real challenge, a test of your “skill level” after you’ve “crushed” Chapter 2.
But hold on, don’t be discouraged! This article will be your “guiding light” to help you “dish it back” to Shigandang. We will not only “dissect” each move, each movement of his, but also “reveal” “unique” tips that you may have never heard of. I guarantee that after reading this, you will confidently “solo” Shigandang and “take home” some “awesome” rewards.
Location and Important Warning
Unlike some other bosses that appear clearly on the map, Shigandang “hides” quite well. To “summon” him, you need to “hunt down” all 6 Buddha’s Eyeballs scattered throughout the Fright Cliff and Rockrest Flat areas in Chapter 2. Sounds “tough,” right, but don’t worry, I’ll guide you thoroughly.
Fright Cliff and Rockrest Flat are two interconnected areas, located in Chapter 2. You will “encounter” the Stone Vanguard – another Yaoguai King – here. In fact, Shigandang “hides in the shadows” right in the Stone Vanguard‘s “home turf.”
Guide to Finding the 6 Buddha’s Eyeballs
Eyeball 1: As soon as you enter Fright Cliff, follow the path uphill. You will hear “creepy” chanting. Follow that sound, you will see a large Buddha statue on the ground. Interact with it to get the first Buddha’s Eyeball. Be careful of the Palestones, they love to “ambush”!
Eyeball 2: From the Squall Hideout Shrine, follow the path on the left leading into a dark cave area. Don’t go into the main cave entrance yet. Instead, head towards the large open cave area on the left, with a few charcoal kilns. You’ll see a large, scary statue in the darkness. Check the statue’s altar to get the second Buddha’s Eyeball. It’s the Palestones again, remember to “clean them up” first.
Eyeball 3 and Eyeball 4: Still from the Squall Hideout Shrine, but this time go to the right side of the valley, up to the ruined area. “Deal with” all the Blazebones along the way. At the end of the high wooden platform, you will find another Buddha head statue, get the third Buddha’s Eyeball and the fouth Buddha’s Eyeball.
Eyeball 5: Located between the Squall Hideout and Rockrest Flat Shrines. There is a large cave leading to the Mother of Stones. Turn right when facing the Mother of Stones to find a cave exit leading to a small stone platform, where the statue and the fifth Buddha’s Eyeball are.
Eyeball 6: This one is the easiest. From the Rockrest Flat Shrine, go straight ahead, towards the entrance to the Stone Vanguard / Shigandang boss area. You will see the final statue and the sixth Buddha’s Eyeball.
After you have “collected” all 6 Buddha’s Eyeballs, return to the Stone Vanguard‘s area. You will see a large rock with many faces (it’s right near where the Stone Vanguard appears). Interact with this rock, and Shigandang will “awaken”!
Important Note: If you haven’t defeated the Stone Vanguard, Shigandang will “fight” the Stone Vanguard first. This is a cool “trick” to “deal with” the Stone Vanguard more easily.
Shigandang Boss Fight and Guide
“Grasping” Shigandang‘s moves is the key to victory. Here is “everything” about his attacks, along with how to recognize and dodge/counter them:
Running Slam: Shigandang runs towards you on all fours, slamming down hard with each step. Run sideways or use Cloud Step to dodge. Don’t stand still! Use the time he’s running to approach and attack from behind.
Jump Slam: Shigandang jumps high and slams down, creating a shockwave and stone pillars. Time your Dodge or use Cloud Step when Shigandang hits the ground. Avoid the stone pillars!
Single Fist Slam and Detonate: Shigandang lifts one hand and slams it down, creating a small explosion. Use Thrust Stance to attack from a distance while dodging the explosion. Time your attack for when the explosion occurs, as Shigandang will take a moment to recover after this move.
High Jump and Stone Pillars: Shigandang jumps very high, then slams down, summoning many stone pillars around him. Absolutely do not retreat straight back! Run sideways or diagonally to avoid the stone pillars. After Shigandang slams down, he will take a while to pull his hand out of the ground. This is a good opportunity to attack.
Full Body Shockwave: Shigandang lifts one hand and one leg, then slams down, creating a large shockwave and a large explosion. Extremely difficult to dodge! You can try using Pillar Stance to jump high, but you have to time it extremely precisely, and you have to be far from Shigandang. It’s best to “run far away” when you see this sign.
Double Punch and Exploding Pillars: Shigandang stands on two legs, punches the ground twice, then creates a line of exploding stone pillars. Stay away from the straight line in front of Shigandang. Attack the sides or back of Shigandang while he is creating the pillars.
After “struggling” with Shigandang, you will receive Heart of Stone, a special material used to craft weapons. And Skandha of Feeling, one of the important Skandhas, which may be related to the storyline.
So, you’ve “mastered” the secret to “defeating” Shigandang! From finding the 6 Buddha’s Eyeballs, “borrowing” his strength to “deal with” the Stone Vanguard, to “understanding” each move and building a reasonable strategy, everything has been “revealed”.
Defeating Shigandang is not only a proud “achievement” but also an important step in the journey to explore the world of Black Myth: Wukong. The “awesome” rewards you receive will be “powerful allies” for the more “challenging” trials ahead.
But more importantly, it’s the experience and skills you “accumulate” after this battle. That’s the most powerful “weapon” for you to conquer all difficulties in the game.
Hopefully, this guide will help you be more “confident” when facing Shigandang, and have “memorable” experiences in Black Myth: Wukong.
