Surely, seasoned “monster hunters” in Black Myth: Wukong don’t want to miss any challenges, especially the hidden (optional) bosses that are both strong and… “arrogant”. Fuban – the giant scarab beetle residing in the Kingdom of Sahali – is one of them. Not only does he provide a spectacular battle, but Fuban also “generously” gifts you extremely valuable rewards. This article will be your guide, “leading the way” for you to conquer this “tough” boss, from A to Z: location, how to “unlock” him, “perfect” strategy, and of course, the “spoils of war” that await.
Location and Important Warning
Unlike some “easy-going” bosses, Fuban “hides” quite well in the secret area of the Kingdom of Sahali in Chapter 2. To “meet” him, you will have to go through a “lengthy” chain of quests related to the “drunkard” Yellow-Robed Squire (also known as the Drunken Boar). You can refer to the guide article on this quest.
Fuban Boss Fight and Guide
Phase 1
In the first phase, Fuban will use a series of “annoying” attacks such as digging, leaping into the air, claw swipes, and horn thrusts.
Digging: When Fuban starts to “dive” into the sand, run immediately. Don’t try to dodge because it’s easy to “miss the timing” and “get hit”. Pay attention to the signs of sand shaking to determine his direction of movement.
Leaping: When Fuban “flies” into the air, focus on observing and dodging just before he lunges down. Time it very precisely!
Claw Swipes: Fuban often swipes his claws continuously from both sides. Don’t be “greedy” to attack, carefully dodge each swipe.
Shockwaves: Fuban can create a shock wave by stomping or slamming its head into the ground. Can evade it if you time your dodges, or utilize Rock Solid.
Your main targets are Fuban‘s claws. These are his “critical” weak points.
If you want to maintain a safe distance, use the ranged attacks of Thrust Stance. The advantage of long range will help you “chip away” at Fuban‘s health without having to “get close”.
Phase 2
After “shaving off” about 1/4 of Fuban‘s health bar, the Yellow Wind Sage will “appear” and “lend a hand” in the battle.
You can still continue to attack Fuban‘s claws. The Yellow Wind Sage will use extremely powerful wind-type attacks, dealing “massive” damage to Fuban. Take advantage of these attacks to “pressure” him.
Although you have an “ally”, you still need to be careful with Fuban‘s attacks. Let the Yellow Wind Sage “take” most of the damage. Your advantage at this time is that you can be more “free” to focus on dodging and recovering.
After successfully “defeating” Fuban, you will receive the Sky-Piercing Horn and Wind Tamer. Wind Tamer is a talisman that is a great help when you face the Yellow Wind Sage at the end of Chapter 2.
Conquering Fuban is not an “easy” task, but with this detailed guide, I hope you have “grasped” the necessary “secrets” to defeat Fuban. Don’t be discouraged if you “fall” a few times. Be persistent, practice, and “try again” until you succeed. Black Myth: Wukong has many more interesting things waiting for you to discover. I wish you happy “fighting” hours!
