Black Loong – Black Myth: Wukong

In Black Myth: Wukong, Black Loong is not just an optional boss, but also a real challenge for those who want to completely conquer Chapter 2. Unlike other “easy-going” bosses, Black Loong requires careful preparation and a clear strategy. This article will be your guide, providing all the necessary information from his hidden location, how to unlock the fight, to detailed strategies to defeat this ferocious dragon. Get ready, because this will be a battle that is not easy! And a sincere advice, complete all of Chapter 2, get to the beginning of Chapter 3, and then come back to fight this guy.

Location and Important Warning

Black Loong hides in Fright Cliff, a challenging area in Chapter 2. To get there, you need to find the Rockrest Flat Shrine – this will be your starting point. Right next to the shrine, you will see a staircase leading up, and at the top is a giant Waterfall of Sand. Initially, you will not be able to cross this waterfall, and there will be a Spearbone guarding it. To dispel the Waterfall of Sand, you need Loong Scales.

How to get Loong Scales

First, go to Sandgate Village and confront the King of Flowing Sand and the Second Rat Prince. You can choose to fight one of the two, or both. Then, enter the Valley of Despair.

On the left side of the area, at the location of the First Rat Prince, find a red wall with small statues on it. There are two ways to break the wall:

If you haven’t defeated the First Rat Prince here. Lure him to attack the wall.

If you have defeated the First Rat Prince, you can break the wall yourself with a very strong attack. Effective attacks include the Spirit Attack of Wandering Wight or the final attack of the Azure Dust Transformation.

After the wall breaks, go inside, open the chest and you will have the Loong Scales.

Return to the Waterfall of Sand

With the Loong Scales in hand, return to the Waterfall of Sand at Fright Cliff. You will hear a voice coming from the Waterfall of Sand. Interact with the waterfall, and it will disappear, revealing a large door. Step through the door, and you have arrived at Black Loong‘s lair!

Preparation

Don’t underestimate Black Loong, even if you’ve found him. This battle will require more careful preparation than any fight before. Here’s what you need to do:

  • Increase your strength: As mentioned in the introduction, complete all of Chapter 2 before thinking about challenging Black Loong. Even starting Chapter 3 to gain more strength is not a bad idea.
  • Full medicines: Visit Shen Monkey and buy Thunderbolt Horn Soak. This medicine will help you significantly increase your resistance to lightning damage – which Black Loong uses a lot. Also, make sure you have enough healing potions and other boosting potions.
  • Upgrade equipment: Make sure your weapon and armor are upgraded as much as possible. Every stat increase is valuable in this battle.
  • Skills: Choose skills that suit your playstyle, but prioritize skills that can deal high damage or stun.

And make sure you have obtained the Wind Tamer by defeating the optional boss Fuban. This item will be extremely useful in the battle with Black Loong, as I will explain later.

Black Loong Boss Fight and Guide

This is when all your preparation pays off. Black Loong is a formidable opponent, but with the right strategy, you can absolutely win.

Black Loong is a bipedal dragon, wielding two giant lightning-infused clubs. His attacks deal massive damage, especially lightning damage.

Analyzing attacks and how to avoid them

Leaping Slam: Black Loong jumps high and slams his club down. Move back or dodge to the side as soon as he starts to jump.

Melee Swings: Black Loong swings his club in various ways. Observe the direction of the swing and dodge in the opposite direction.

Sweeping Electrical Arc: Black Loong swings his club, creating a sweeping arc of electricity. This attack is quite slow, you can easily dodge by moving back or moving out of its range.

Expanding Electrical Ring: Black Loong creates an expanding ring of electricity. You can dodge through the ring, jump, or use Pillar Stance.

Air Explosions: Black Loong creates electrical explosions in the air. Run away from Black Loong when he starts to perform this attack.

Earth-Pounding Electric Rings: This is Black Loong‘s most dangerous attack. He slams his club down to the beat of a drum, creating expanding rings of electricity.

Method 1: Listen to the drumbeat to time it, then dodge parallel to Black Loong (move sideways, not forward or backward).

Method 2: Find one of the rocks in the arena and stand on it. Warning: The rocks can be destroyed by attacks, so be careful. Absolutely do not stand near them when Black Loong attacks, and do not use Wind Tamer when near them.

Note: The last hit of this sequence does not create a ring of electricity, but will explode after a pause.

Sandstorm: Black Loong creates a sandstorm, pulling you closer. Use the Wind Tamer to dispel the storm and stun Black Loong for a few seconds.

Strategy and Tips

  • Immobilize: Use this spell to have more time to recover or prepare to attack, but Black Loong can resist it.
  • Azure Dust Transformation: Very effective for stunning Black Loong.
  • Pluck of Many: Causes confusion and creates opportunities to attack when Black Loong is distracted.
  • Smash and Thrust Stances: Utilize the heavy attacks of these two stances to deal massive damage.
  • Exploit openings: Black Loong has many slow attacks, take advantage of this time to attack.
  • Be mindful of the Weaken status, as you will get afflicted with it if hit by lightning attacks.

After defeating Black Loong, you will receive the Loong Pearl, Tridacna Pendant, and Thunderbone – a special material needed to craft the Loongwreathe Staff.

Defeating Black Loong is no small challenge, but with careful preparation, the right strategy, and a bit of patience, you can absolutely overcome it. Remember the key points: find Fright Cliff, get the Loong Scales, prepare enough medicines and equipment, master Black Loong‘s attacks, and utilize the Wind Tamer. The rewards you receive, especially the Thunderbone, will be a valuable addition to your journey in Black Myth: Wukong. Good luck, and keep exploring the other secrets of the game!
