Yellowbrow – the name that makes many Black Myth: Wukong gamers “break out in a cold sweat”. As the final boss of Chapter 3, this Yaoguai King is not only “tanky” but also possesses dozens of extremely annoying Lightning-type moves. Myself, after “getting beat” a lot, I decided to compile my hard-earned experience into this detailed guide. The goal is none other than to help you “overcome” Yellowbrow in a… less painful way. The article will go straight to the point, specifically guiding each phase, each attack, along with the “unique” tips and strategies that I have discovered. Get ready to “fight”!
Recommended Loadout
Before “engaging” with Yellowbrow, thorough preparation is a vital factor. Don’t underestimate this step, because it will largely determine your chances of success. Here’s what you need to “gear up”:
- Prioritize equipment with high lightning resistance. For weapons, choose the one you are most proficient with, with a relatively fast attack speed to easily dodge and counterattack. Don’t forget to upgrade them as much as possible.
- Bring plenty of Pills (healing potions) and especially Shock-Quelling Powder. Yellowbrow has many moves that cause the Shocked effect, making you take double damage – extremely dangerous.
- Wind Tamer Vessel is a great Choice. This Spirit can cancel out Yellowbrow’s moves, even including his most dangerous one.
- If you have another Spirit for damage or defense, consider using it.
- Pillar Stance: Helps you jump high, avoiding some of Yellowbrow’s ground sweeps.
- Rock Solid: If you are confident in your parry ability, this is a good choice, allowing you to counterattack immediately.
Yellowbrow Boss Fight and Guide
Phase 1
Thunder Mace: Yellowbrow swings his spiked mace in various ways: slamming down, sweeping horizontally, or thrusting forward. The key point is that this mace can change length, so be careful of its attack range.
Lightning Waves: Khi Yellowbrow slams the mace down, there will be waves of electricity spreading out. Jump up (can use Pillar Stance) or move far away to avoid.
Lightning Bolts: Yellowbrow shoots out lightning bolts that move on the ground. They are not too fast, you can dodge by moving continuously to the sides.
Disappear: Occasionally, Yellowbrow will “vanish” and appear in another location. Observe his shadow on the ground to guess the direction of movement.
Taunt: After disappearing, Yellowbrow will sometimes stand still and taunt you. This is a good opportunity to unleash powerful attacks, especially Focus attacks.
Strategy
- Keep a safe distance, move continuously to dodge Yellowbrow’s attacks.
- Take advantage of his recovery time (after each attack) to attack.
- Use Focus Points to unleash powerful attacks when he taunts or is recovering.
Phase 2
Golden Form: Yellowbrow covers himself in a layer of golden armor, becoming immune to normal attacks. Use heavy attacks (normal heavy attack or charged heavy attack) to break this armor. After 2-3 heavy attacks (or 1 charged heavy attack with 3 Focus points), the armor will break and Yellowbrow will be stunned.
Ultimate Thunder Mace: Yellowbrow raises his mace high, gathers energy, then slams it down, creating a fixed lightning streak on the arena floor. This streak deals continuous damage if you touch it. Quickly move out of the affected area when he starts raising the mace. Try to “lure” him to create the lightning streak in the corner of the room so it doesn’t take up too much space.
Lightning Explosion: After some attacks, Yellowbrow can detonate the mace, creating a small explosion around him.
Strategy
- Focus on breaking Yellowbrow’s golden armor with heavy attacks.
- Be careful with the Ultimate Thunder Mace move, always be ready to move to avoid the lightning streak.
- Be wary of lightning explosions after he attacks.
Phase 3
AOE Lightning: Yellowbrow gathers energy, creating a lightning storm over a wide area. This is his highest damage move. Run as fast as possible to the outermost edge of the arena. Or, if you have the Wind Tamer Vessel, use it to interrupt this move.
Ring of Lightning: Yellowbrow creates a ring of lightning that surrounds you, then throws out lightning balls. You have to spin your stuff to block them. Or you can use Wind Tamer to break the ring.
The attacks from the previous 2 phases will appear more frequently and more dangerous.
Strategy
- This is the most difficult phase, requiring high concentration and reflexes.
- Prioritize dodging AOE attacks and lightning streaks.
- Take every opportunity to attack when Yellowbrow is recovering.
- Use all remaining skills and items to finish him off.
Note: Throughout the battle, always pay attention to the Shocked status bar. If you are affected by this effect, use Shock-Quelling Powder immediately to avoid taking extra damage.
Advanced Strategies
Re-Spec Sparks
As mentioned, the A Pluck of Many skill (calling minions) is completely useless in this battle, because Yellowbrow will cause your clones to turn around and attack you.
Reallocate the Sparks points invested in this skill to other useful skills, such as increasing damage, defense, or recovery.
Focus Points
Do not use Focus Points randomly.
Save them for important moments, such as when Yellowbrow taunts, when you break his golden armor, or when you need to interrupt an AOE attack.
Focus attacks deal massive damage and can stun Yellowbrow, creating an opportunity for you to attack continuously.
Recovery
Do not use Pills too early. Save them for phase 3, when Yellowbrow becomes more dangerous.
If you have other recovery items (besides Pills), use them wisely.
Utilize the environment
Always pay attention to the lightning streaks on the arena floor (from the Ultimate Thunder Mace move). Stay away from them to avoid losing health unnecessarily.
Try to “lure” Yellowbrow to create lightning streaks in the corners of the room so they don’t take up too much floor space.
When Yellowbrow is about to unleash an AOE attack, run as fast as possible to the outermost edge of the arena. This is the safest location.
After successfully “overcoming” Yellowbrow, you will receive the Hubris Nose Relic.
Defeating Yellowbrow is definitely a significant challenge in Black Myth: Wukong. However, with thorough preparation, mastering the attacks, applying a reasonable strategy, and utilizing the tips that I have shared, you can absolutely “overcome” it successfully.
Remember, perseverance and not giving up are the keys. Don’t be discouraged if you fail a few times at first. Consider it an opportunity to learn, draw experience, and become stronger.
Good luck on your journey to conquer Yellowbrow! And don’t forget to share your experience in the comments section below. Your contributions will help many other gamers!
