Greetings fellow disciples, prepare yourselves to face Yaksha King – the Final Boss of Chapter 5 and an extremely challenging Yaoguai King in Black Myth: Wukong. In reality, this is Red Boy transformed after absorbing a mysterious treasure. You will encounter him in the Field of Fire, immediately after defeating Red Boy near the Fallen Furnace Crater Shrine area – the battle begins instantly! Possessing terrifying speed, a pair of Elbow Blades with a diverse moveset, and extreme aggression, Yaksha King demands focus, quick reflexes, and wise resource management. This is definitely a peak challenge!
Yaksha King Boss Fight and Guide
Phase 1: With Zhu Bajie’s Assistance
This first phase can be considered somewhat more manageable thanks to the presence of Zhu Bajie. Yaksha King isn’t going all out yet, giving you a chance to familiarize yourself with his basic moveset. Focus on observing and learning how to counter the following attacks:
Melee Combo with Elbow Blades: Yaksha King will use his pair of Elbow Blades to perform rapid slashing combos at close range. The speed is quite fast and unpredictable. The safest approach is to maintain a moderate distance and dodge backward or sideways when he starts attacking. If confident, you can try to parry or use Ebon Flow to block and build Focus. After he finishes a combo chain, there will be a short opening for you to land a few light attacks.
Ground Spikes – Small Ring: This is one of his signature moves. You will see small, grass-like blades start emerging from the ground in a circle around Yaksha King. Just seconds later, they will shoot up as sharp spikes dealing significant damage. Pay attention to the small blades appearing on the ground; they are easy to spot. As soon as you see this sign, quickly move out of the circle’s radius. Don’t try to attack or block; prioritize getting out safely.
Wall Jump Attack: Yaksha King will showcase his mobility by running or jumping onto the surrounding cliffs/walls and then bouncing off, landing at your position to attack. This landing is often accompanied by the ground cracking or additional ground spikes appearing. Always keep an eye on him, especially when he nears the walls. When he jumps, observe his trajectory and be ready to dodge just as he’s about to land. Maintaining a relative distance will give you more reaction time.
General Strategy for Phase 1:
- Safety First: Focus on learning the attack rhythms and dodging the boss’s moves.
- Let Bajie Work: Make the most of Zhu Bajie’s presence as a distraction and for healing.
- Conserve Resources: Limit unnecessary use of healing items and Spells. Save them for the later phase.
- Steady Chip Damage: Take opportunities to attack when Yaksha King is busy with Bajie or right after you successfully dodge one of his attacks.
Phase 2: Solo Encounter – Full Fury
This is when Yaksha King stops holding back. He becomes extremely aggressive, his attack speed skyrockets, and he adds many new deadly moves. You need to concentrate intensely and utilize all the skills you’ve learned: Single Blade Stance: One of his Elbow Blades will glow brightly while the other dims. He might also shout words like “Merciless!” or “Sheathless!” before each strike. In this stance, his attack range increases significantly. He will perform extremely wide and powerful arcing sweeps, usually in a sequence of three consecutive strikes. Survival Tip: This is one of the most dangerous attack chains. Learn the rhythm of these three sweeps. The key moment is to roll underneath the blade’s sweep path just before it reaches you. Mastering this dodge is crucial for surviving Phase 2.
Overhead Slam with Blade Trail: Yaksha King will swing a blade fiercely overhead and slam it straight down in front of him, creating a trail of grass-like blades that rushes towards you. Quite straightforward, dodge sideways as soon as you see him preparing to slam the blade down to avoid this deadly trail.
Large Area Ground Spikes: A terrifyingly upgraded version of the ground spike attack from Phase 1. First, a small ring of spikes will appear, but immediately after, a second, much larger ring of spikes will quickly form and expand outwards. Timing a jump or dodge to clear both layers of spikes is extremely difficult and risky. Safest Tip: As soon as you see the first ring of spikes appear, run away quickly, far from the effective range of both rings. Don’t get greedy and try to attack during this.
Charge Grab Attack: Yaksha King will brace himself and charge straight at you at high speed. Extreme Warning: This is an attack you absolutely must not get hit by. If grabbed, a short cutscene will play where Yaksha King pummels you severely, and when you return to the fight, you’ll find a massive chunk of your health gone. Recognize his charging preparation stance (usually distinct from other attacks) and dodge sideways at all costs. Do not attempt to block this attack.
General Strategy for Phase 2:
- Unleash Spells: Now is the time to use the Spells you’ve saved. Use Immobilize to lock him down when he’s moving too fast or to create safe windows for attacking/healing. Ebon Flow becomes even more crucial now for defending against heavy hits and building Focus.
- Utilize Heavy Attacks: As mentioned, Yaksha King can be stunned/staggered. Build enough Focus (potentially from blocking with Ebon Flow or landing regular hits) and unleash Heavy Attacks to break his attack rhythm, creating significant damage opportunities.
- Prioritize Survival: Always place dodging dangerous attacks (single blade sweeps, charge grab, large area spikes) as the top priority. Only attack when you are certain it’s safe.
- Patiently Seek Openings: Attack during the short windows after he finishes a combo chain or after you successfully dodge a perilous attack.
When Yaksha King falls, marking the end of Chapter 5, you will receive the Plantain Fan – a very powerful counter-magic treasure, and the Grieved Body – the fifth relic in the storyline.
Yaksha King is truly the pinnacle challenge of Chapter 5 in Black Myth: Wukong, a demanding test of speed, power, and aggression. To achieve victory, you need superb dodging skills, smart tactics (especially after Zhu Bajie leaves), the ability to handle critical attacks like the single blade sweeps or the charge grab, combined with the effective use of Spells like Immobilize and Ebon Flow. Congratulations on successfully conquering Yaksha King, completing this chapter, and proving your prowess – be ready for even greater challenges ahead!
