Welcome to the detailed guide for Baw-Lang-Lang, a Fire-type Yaoguai Chief and the fifth frog boss you will encounter in Black Myth: Wukong. It hides in the secret Bishui Cave area within Chapter 5: Golden Child, Crimson Blood. Although not a main boss, Baw-Lang-Lang with its fire attacks is still a formidable challenge. This article will guide you on how to find, prepare for, and defeat it effectively.
How to find Baw-Lang-Lang
To find Baw-Lang-Lang, you must first overcome the Five Element Carts in Chapter 5, and especially defeat the last one: Rusty-Gold Cart. After defeating it, an entrance to a frozen cave will open.
Start from the Shrine Cooling Slope in the Field of Fire area. Go straight ahead, break the ice at the cave entrance (immediately after the location of Rusty-Gold Cart) and enter. You will see a slope leading down to a larger room.
As you reach the end of the slope, you will see a large glowing structure in the center of the room – this is the teleportation gate that takes you to the secret Bishui Cave area. However, don’t rush into it! Look to the front left corner of this room. Baw-Lang-Lang is hiding right there.
Pro tip: It’s best to deal with Baw-Lang-Lang right now, before you activate the teleportation gate to Bishui Cave. If you accidentally enter the teleportation gate first, don’t worry, you can still return to this area later to find and defeat it.
Baw-Lang-Lang Boss Fight and Guide
Baw-Lang-Lang has a significant advantage that you can exploit: it mainly stays in place, only moving when performing a jump attack. This creates many opportunities for you to attack. However, don’t be careless because its Fire-type attacks have a rather wide range and deal significant damage. Basically, you will see it reuse the familiar skill set of other frog bosses (such as tongue whip, leaping attack, back kick), but enhanced with Fire effects.
Below is a detailed analysis of its main attacks and how to counter them effectively:
Tongue Whip: Baw-Lang-Lang whips its fire-covered tongue horizontally (left to right or vice versa) or shoots it straight towards you. This attack is quite predictable. You can jump over the tongue when it sweeps horizontally or dodge to the side when it shoots straight. Timing is key.
Leaping Attack: The boss will perform two quick claw swipes forward, then leap high into the air and slam down at your location, creating a small fire explosion right under its feet upon landing. Be ready to dodge the first two claw swipes. As soon as you see it jump, retreat or dodge sideways to create distance and dodge again as it’s about to land to avoid the fire explosion.
Fireball Spit: Baw-Lang-Lang tilts its head back and begins to spit a series of fireballs that fall around, creating a rain of fire with a wide AoE (Area of Effect). When you see it preparing to perform this attack, quickly move as far away as possible. Carefully observe the circles indicating the landing points of the fireballs on the ground and move continuously to avoid them.
Fire Breath: The boss charges up and spews a stream of fire straight ahead, lasting for a few seconds. This is a golden opportunity to deal damage! As soon as you see it start breathing fire, use Cloud Step to create an illusion or quickly run around to its back. From this safe position, you can freely attack without fear of being hit by the fire stream.
Leaping Fire Wave: A more dangerous variation of the normal jump attack. Each time Baw-Lang-Lang jumps and lands, it will create a ring of fire that spreads outwards from the point of impact. Similar to the basic jump attack, actively dodge backwards or sideways as soon as you see it jump. Creating enough distance will help you avoid the spreading fire wave. Don’t try to attack while it’s in the air.
In summary, to conquer Baw-Lang-Lang, remember to find its correct location in the corner of the room before the Bishui Cave entrance after defeating Rusty-Gold Cart, equip the Fireproof Mantle for fire resistance, and learn how to dodge AoE attacks like fireball spit and leaping fire waves. Utilizing its stationary nature and attacks like fire breath to attack from behind is the key to victory. Although annoying, Baw-Lang-Lang can definitely be defeated if you prepare well and understand its movement patterns, bringing you the valuable Tadpole reward. Good luck, and feel free to share your experiences!
