How to Find Cloudy Mist, Misty Cloud

Cloudy Mist, Misty Cloud are classified as Yaoguai Chief and are an (optional boss – you can skip them if you wish) in Chapter 5: Golden Child, Crimson Blood. You will find them in the Furnace Valley area, sometimes also referred to as Woods of Ember. To reach their location, start from the Valley Entrance Shrine. Go straight ahead, you will begin climbing uphill and pass through two large Torii-like gates. After the second gate, you will reach a fork; take the right path upwards. As you pass through a stone/metal archway in an area that looks like Rakshasa Palace, the fight with Cloudy Mist, Misty Cloud will automatically begin. According to the lore, this pair – one entity consisting of three demons in one body (Cloudy Mist) and a blind mountain spirit (Misty Cloud) – once fought each other but were later subdued by Red Boy and became his subordinates, although their old animosity remains.

Cloudy Mist, Misty Cloud Boss Fight and Guide

Phase 1: Facing Cloudy Mist (Initial Appearance)

Cloudy Mist will appear first and immediately attack you with his staff, mainly using long-range attacks. He has two main attack types:

Ice Laser Beam: Fired from the small face on his chest. Can be a single beam sweeping across the floor (often twice in succession, roll or jump through at the right rhythm) or multiple beams crossing each other.

Frost/Ice Projectiles: Can be several large orbs or a barrage of small projectiles flying towards you.

Counter Tips: Try to get close to Cloudy Mist. This will limit his long-range advantage. For the laser beam, time your roll or jump to get through it. For the projectiles, run in circles to dodge the small barrage or roll to avoid the large orbs. Focus on dealing damage to Cloudy Mist during this phase.

Phase 2: Misty Cloud Enters the Fray

Not long after, Misty Cloud will join the fight, initially appearing almost transparent. He wields a large fire torch like a sledgehammer.

Main Attacks: Slams the torch heavily onto the ground, drags the torch across the floor creating a trail of fire or a fire wave. Sometimes, he performs a slow animation where he places the torch on his back – this is a golden opportunity for you to attack him!

Counter Tips: Keep an eye on the position of the moving misty cloud to anticipate where Misty Cloud will appear and attack. Prioritize dodging when he suddenly appears, especially when you are focusing on Cloudy Mist.

Special Mechanic: Flashbang (The Key Point)

This is the most crucial mechanic you need to master. When Cloudy Mist loses a certain amount of health (about 1/4 of his health bar), he will plant his staff into the ground and create an extremely powerful burst of light – a Flashbang.

Effect: This explosion will cause Stun to YOU and MISTY CLOUD. During this time, Cloudy Mist will temporarily become the “eyes” for his blind companion.

!!! SURVIVAL TIP: As soon as you see Cloudy Mist preparing to plant his staff, IMMEDIATELY RUN AWAY FROM THE STAFF to avoid being stunned. Right after the explosion occurs, take advantage of Misty Cloud being stunned, charge in and attack him relentlessly! If you have the Immobilize spell equipped, this is the perfect time to use it on Misty Cloud, extending the duration he is disabled and maximizing the damage you deal.

Phase 3: Coordinated Dual Combat (Recognizing Combos)

When both fight together, they have some rather annoying coordinated attacks. Pay attention to audio and visual cues:

Combo “One, Two—” / “—Three, Four, Five”: Misty Cloud will say “Monkey, Monkey! Where is he?” (or similar) and swing his torch twice. Immediately after, Cloudy Mist responds “My eyes are on him!” and quickly fires 3 laser beams. Finally, Misty Cloud turns back and slams down hard on you. This combo will repeat with Misty Cloud counting “One, Two” while swinging the torch, Cloudy Mist responding “Three, Four, Five” while firing lasers, and ending with Misty Cloud‘s slam causing an explosion that spreads across the ground. Listen to the count and watch carefully to dodge in rhythm.

Heavy Swing + Dive Bomb Combo: Cloudy Mist performs two heavy staff swings. Don’t rush to attack immediately because Misty Cloud will dive bomb your position (luckily, he’s blind so it’s often inaccurate). Dodge this dive bomb, then go back to attacking Cloudy Mist.

After overcoming the troublesome coordination of Cloudy Mist, Misty Cloud, you will receive the Cloudy Mist, Misty Cloud Spirit, allowing you to summon or use their special abilities later.

So, now you know how to deal with Cloudy Mist, Misty Cloud. In summary, the key to winning this fight lies in always prioritizing taking down Cloudy Mist first to disable Misty Cloud‘s locating ability. Remember how to handle the Flashbang mechanic: run away from the staff when it’s planted and capitalize on the moment Misty Cloud is stunned to attack or use Immobilize. Finally, practice recognizing their coordinated combos through visual and audio cues to dodge more effectively.

This battle might feel chaotic at first, but don’t get discouraged. Be patient, observe the attacks carefully, and find the rhythm of the fight. Once you understand how they operate, defeating this pair is just a matter of time. After collecting your reward, continue your journey, heading up the stairs towards the palace. The next challenge awaiting you might be the Keeper of the Flaming Mountains and Yin-Yang Fish. Good luck!
