If you’re “lost” in Webbed Hollow in Chapter 4 of Black Myth: Wukong, then you’ll likely encounter Elder Armorworm – a giant, slimy, and… extremely annoying worm. Don’t worry, this article will be your “guiding light” to help you “defeat” this optional boss (Yaoguai Chief), not only to “collect” valuable rewards, but also to unlock a mysterious Spirit, extremely useful for your journey. Proto-Armorworm is something you can’t miss, it’s an important reward. So get ready, we will “decode” every nook and cranny of this battle together!
Location
To find Elder Armorworm’s lair, you need to start from the Shrine at The Verdure Bridge. From here, head north, across the bridge. Then, find the path on the left that leads into a large archway covered in cobwebs. Continue through the archway, and you’ll reach an open area, and our “main character” is “perched” there waiting for you. Be careful, don’t “accidentally” miss it, because this area is quite recognizable with two “gossiping” lanterns and a suspicious “ally” who will tell you about nearby treasure! A screenshot or a mini-map might be helpful, but believe me, the path isn’t too complicated.
Elder Armorworm Boss Fight and Guide
As soon as the battle begins, Elder Armorworm will “greet” you with a “hard-to-avoid” combo: Shooting webs to stun, then rushing straight at you. Don’t “panic”! Focus on pressing the dodge button immediately after you escape the sticky web. The timing of the dodge is crucial, if you dodge too early or too late, you will “take full damage”.
Main strategy: Remember this “etched in stone” strategy: Attack when the boss is lying down. After a few attacks, Elder Armorworm will get “tired” and lie down. This is the “golden opportunity” for you to “deal damage”. Also, take advantage of the boss’s recovery time (after thrashing or spitting venom), keep a safe distance and move continuously to avoid “getting hit”.
Web Shot: This worm will shoot a stream of web in an arc in front of it. The best way to dodge is to move to the sides. If you are confident in your skills, you can try to parry with Rock Solid (a defensive skill), but be careful, because the timing of the parry must be extremely precise. If you get caught in the web, keep pressing the movement/attack button to escape.
Venom Spit: This is Elder Armorworm’s “signature” move. It can spit venom when facing you, or when you attack from behind. Be careful! To dodge, move out of the affected area of the venom pool as quickly as possible. Pillar Stance will help you “fly” up high, completely avoiding the venom pool. Tip: Observe the boss’s spitting direction to predict and move appropriately. After the boss spits venom, it will have a “rest” period, take advantage of it to attack.
Body Slam: Elder Armorworm will twist its body and slam it towards you. This move has a very clear sign (the boss twists its body), so you can completely dodge by moving to the sides. Or, if you’re confident, use Rock Solid to block this attack.
Jump and Slam: This worm will “launch” itself into the air and “land” right on your position. Don’t worry, this move is quite slow and you have enough time to dodge to the side.
Thrashing when knocked down: Careful! Even when knocked down, Elder Armorworm is still very dangerous. It will thrash around, spraying venom around. It’s best to back away, waiting for the right time to attack.
When Elder Armorworm “falls”, you will receive Proto-Armorworm.
Don’t rush to “store” Proto-Armorworm! This item will unlock an interesting side quest related to Chen Loong at Zodiac Village. Follow these steps:
- Bring Proto-Armorworm to Chen Loong.
- Return after some time (you can do other quests or rest at a Shrine).
- Find a small Armorworm in the basket outside Chen Loong’s tent.
- Feed this small Armorworm 3 Rice Cocoons. You can find them by breaking the small cocoons in Webbed Hollow. Search carefully around this area, they are usually scattered in easily visible places.
- Rest at a Shrine and return.
- You will see a Spirit replacing the small Armorworm.
- Absorb Elder Amourworm Spirit. This Spirit will bring you certain benefits in combat, but what exactly, you’ll have to discover for yourself!
Defeating Elder Armorworm is not an “impossible mission”. By mastering the information about the location, preparing carefully, applying a reasonable strategy (attack when the boss is lying down, take advantage of recovery time, keep a safe distance, use Pillar Stance to avoid venom), and patiently dodging attacks (web shot, venom spit, body slam, jump and slam), you can absolutely “win”. Don’t forget the “spoils” of Proto-Armorworm and the side quest related to Chen Loong to receive the Elder Armorworm Spirit.
Remember, this is just one of many challenges that await you in Black Myth: Wukong. Always be ready to “learn”, experiment, and find the fighting style that suits you best.
Wish you have fun “adventure” hours and success in the mysterious world of Black Myth: Wukong!
