Important Warning
The battle with Erlang, The Sacred Divinity at Mount Mei is a comprehensive challenge, demanding both reflex skills and sound tactics. Here are the core characteristics you need to grasp before entering the fight:
- Two Status Bars: Unlike many bosses, Erlang possesses both an HP bar and a Shield/Posture bar located right above the health bar. Your main goal is to deplete this shield bar to get Erlang staggered and make him extremely vulnerable for a short period. This is your golden opportunity to deal massive damage.
- Shock Damage: Many of Erlang’s attacks, especially in later phases, inflict or build up Shock damage, leading to the Shock status effect. Be prepared to deal with this type of damage.
- Nemesis of Spells & Transformations: Erlang is extremely adept at dealing with your special abilities. If you use Transformation, he might transform accordingly or even completely cancel your transformation state. Many other spells can also be easily dodged or nullified by him.
- Companion – Xiaotian Quan: Erlang doesn’t fight alone. He will frequently summon his divine dog Xiaotian Quan from his spear to attack you simultaneously, adding significant pressure.
- Multiple Phases: The fight is divided into multiple phases, usually marked by Erlang reaching certain health thresholds (e.g., 75%, 50%, 25%). Each new phase brings more dangerous attacks and combos, requiring you to constantly adapt. (Details will be in Section V).
Recommended Loadout
Facing an opponent of Erlang, The Sacred Divinity’s caliber, thorough preparation is the key to victory. Here are suggestions for equipment, items, and skills you should consider:
- Priority: Melee + Spellbinder Build: This is the top recommended build for this fight. The reason is that Erlang is very good at countering Transformation spells, making reliance on them less effective and a waste of Mana. Spellbinder (if fully upgraded from the Treasure Hunter quest) allows you to enhance your normal attacks and maximize damage during the moments Erlang’s Shield is broken.
- Support Items: Bring Loong Aura Amplification Pellets (increase attack damage), Enhanced Tiger Subduing Pellets (increase critical hit rate), and Ginseng Pellets (faster Focus recovery).
- Alternative: Magic Build: If you still want to go the magic route, focus on these key skills:
- Plantain Fan: Crucial skill for quickly breaking Erlang’s Shield. Almost mandatory for this fight.
- Immobilize: Only truly effective when Erlang’s Shield is broken, helping to hold him for damage output. Note, Erlang can also use this spell against you!
- Cloudstep: Extremely useful for dodging long combos and dangerous attacks, while also helping you approach or maintain distance.
Note: Absolutely avoid overusing Transformation spells as they are highly likely to be immediately dispelled by Erlang.
- Shock-Quelling Powder: Mandatory to bring and should be on an easy-to-use hotkey. Shock damage from Erlang is very annoying, and this powder helps you instantly remove the Shock status.
- Soul Remigration Pill: If you find the fight too difficult, this pill that lets you resurrect once will be a great lifesaver.
- Healing/Mana/Focus Potions: Naturally, ensure you have enough necessary potions for a long and intense battle.
- Plantain Fan: Breaks shield fastest.
- Immobilize: Locks target when shield is down.
- Cloudstep: Agile dodging.
- A Pluck of Many: Summons clones to help attack and break Shield/Posture faster.
Erlang, The Sacred Divinity Boss Fight and Guide
Phase 1 (100% – 75% HP)
As soon as the fight starts, run towards Erlang (about halfway across the arena). Time your dodge just before he attacks, then immediately use the Plantain Fan. This will break his Shield very quickly.
Approach and use Spellbinder (if using the melee build) or Immobilize (if using the magic build) and your strongest attacks to quickly deplete his health in the early phase.
Main Attacks: Mostly basic spear combos, combined with support from Xiaotian Quan. Relatively easy to dodge and counter if you stay calm.
Phase 2 (75% – 50% HP)
Erlang will soar into the sky, summoning a giant axe that slams down directly onto your position. This attack is quite easy to dodge. However, immediately after, Erlang will dive down to attack again, accompanied by a ground ripple/shockwave (looks like ice) – you need to jump/roll over it to avoid.
New Attacks:
Lightning Infusion: Erlang’s weapons start getting infused with Lightning, dealing extra damage and the Shock effect. This is when Shock-Quelling Powder comes into play.
Weapon Combos: He will flexibly combine Spear, Axe (smaller version), and Sword in his combos. When using the Sword, be careful of the sword projectiles – you can use a spinning staff parry or dodge.
Strategy: This phase requires faster reflexes. Focus on parrying/dodging the combos and look for openings to attack. Continue prioritizing breaking the Shield with the Plantain Fan or normal attacks. If using magic, don’t try to use Immobilize while the shield is full. Use Cloudstep to dodge dangerous attacks and build Focus.
Phase 3 (50% – 25% HP): High Danger!
Erlang flies up again, this time using his Third Eye to fire a laser beam straight at you. Immediately after, multiple duplicates of him appear and simultaneously fire sweeping lasers horizontally. Dodge continuously; this is also a good opportunity to build Focus.
New Attacks (Extremely Dangerous):
Spear Storm: When the duplicates merge, Erlang will be surrounded by countless swirling spears radiating red light and lightning. This spear vortex can be deflected. However, the real danger lies in the finishing move: Erlang will perform a red charged attack and dash straight at you with terrifying speed. This attack is extremely powerful and has very tricky delayed timing. How to counter: Deflect continuously while the spears are swirling. As soon as you see him start charging the final blow (spears stop swirling), immediately start to spam dodge or use Cloudstep to get far away. Do not try to block this attack.
Sword Drag & Laser: Erlang will use a long sword, dragging it on the ground and charging extremely fast towards you. This needs an urgent dodge. After doing this about 2-3 times, he will start firing continuous lasers from the sword (about 4 shots) – you need to dodge repeatedly to avoid them completely.
Strategy: This is the most challenging phase. The top priority is surviving the devastating attacks above. Be very patient, only attack when absolutely safe, and focus on breaking the Shield during the brief moments you get.
Phase 4 (25% – 0% HP)
Erlang will use a combination of attacks from previous phases, possibly with higher frequency and aggression.
Strategy: Go all out! Apply the same tactic: break the Shield one last time by any means necessary. When the shield breaks, unleash everything you have: heavy attacks, Spellbinder, Immobilize, even A Pluck of Many if you still have Mana. Finish him off as quickly as possible.
When his health reaches 0, Erlang, The Sacred Divinity will turn into a bird and fly away, signaling your victory in the first stage of this final challenge.
When Erlang, The Sacred Divinity turns into a bird and flies away, the intense battle temporarily concludes, but your journey at Mount Mei isn’t over yet. Here’s what you need to know about the next stage:
- No Direct Item Drops: An important thing to note is that after defeating this Sacred Divinity form of Erlang, you will not receive any items immediately, including experience or currency. Don’t be surprised; this is intentional by the developers.
- Facing The Four Heavenly Kings: Right after Erlang leaves, you won’t have much time to rest. The next challenge is the confrontation with The Four Heavenly Kings – four other powerful celestial generals.
- The Final Battle with Erlang Shen: Only after overcoming The Four Heavenly Kings will you truly enter the final battle at Mount Mei. At this point, Erlang will return in a different, more powerful form – often known as Erlang Shen (in a giant lion form, while you will be in the Stone Monkey form). Defeating this form truly completes the challenge at Mount Mei. (Rewards will be received after winning this final battle, mentioned in the Summary or perhaps a separate article if needed).
