In Chapter 3 of Black Myth: Wukong, hidden behind the beauty of the Valley of Ecstasy, is the Green-Capped Martialist, a challenging Yaoguai Chief. This guide will be your “battle-tested” handbook, revealing strategies, equipment, and how to “provoke” him to appear, helping the Destined One not only win but also discover hidden secrets.
Location and Recommended Loadout
The Green-Capped Martialist doesn’t appear naturally. To “invite” him to fight, you will meet the Treasure Hunter 3 times following his quest chain.
The First Time: North Shore of the Bitter Lake
In Chapter 3, go to the North Shore of the Bitter Lake area. Facing away from the Shrine, turn left, walk along the shore, past the area with Chen Loong, and you will see a gate.
Go through this gate, and you will find him. Rescue him by “cleaning up” the bats, then talk to him. He will tell you about a secret treasure.
The Second Time: Towers of Karma
Go to the Valley of Ecstasy area, find the Towers of Karma. This Treasure Hunter is “shivering” from the cold. He is sitting on a large tree, behind the area, to the left of the main Shrine.
Use the Circle of Fire Spell to warm him up. After the cutscene, talk to get more clues about the secret Melon Field.
The Third Time: Melon Field (Brook of Bliss)
From the Forest of Felicity, follow the main path, turn left down the slope to enter the Towers of Karma area. Head towards the end of Brook of Bliss. When you reach a cliff with some charcoal kilns, look down.
You can jump down into a large cave with a Buddha statue. This is the Melon Field. When you get close, the Treasure Hunter will reveal his true form and the battle begins!
Facing the Green-Capped Martialist is no joke. He is a nimble opponent, using powerful weapons and capable of dealing fire damage. To “survive” and win, you need to prepare carefully:
- Fireproof Mantle: This is the “go-to” equipment for this battle. Obtained from completing the secret area in Chapter 1, this mantle not only makes you “immune” to fire damage but also increases Focus (an important stat).
- Damage-boosting medicine: Helps you “burst damage” more effectively.
- Defense-boosting medicine: Reduces damage taken, helping you “stay alive” longer.
- Burn-healing medicine: Even with the Fireproof Mantle, burns can still happen, so be careful.
- Pillar Stance: If you are using the Fireproof Mantle, take advantage of Pillar Stance to dodge some of the boss’s wide-area attacks.
Green-Capped Martialist Boss Fight and Guide
The Green-Capped Martialist is a “tough” opponent with speed and unexpected attacks. However, if you master the moves and strategies, you can absolutely “seethrough” him.
Phase 1 (Above 50% Health)
Spinning Chakram: He spins a chakram (a ring-shaped weapon) in front of him, creating a spark and then a projectile ring. Dodge to the side to avoid both.
Chakram Toss: Throws the chakram, then lunges and performs a 2-hit combo. Pay attention to his movements; dodge when he’s about to lunge.
Ground Spin: The chakram spins on the ground, possibly accompanied by a spinning kick. Jump or dodge to the side.
Slashing Combos: Consecutive slashes with the chakram. Try to dodge or block/parry.
Teleport: Disappears and reappears near you. Always be ready to dodge or block.
Spinning Leap: Jumps up, spins, and attacks with two chakrams. Time your dodge when he jumps.
Chakram Ride: The chakram flies in a zig-zag pattern, creating a trail of fire. Focus on the chakram, dodge continuously, and wait for him to appear to attack.
Use A Pluck of Many to inflict additional damage from the clones.
Strategy
- Maintain distance, observe, and dodge.
- Use Rock Solid to parry direct attacks.
- Attack when he’s open after attacking.
- Use Immobilize when he appears.
Phase 2 (Below 50% Health)
Clones: Creates two clones; all three throw chakrams. Try to dodge away from the center.
Two Flaming Chakrams: Two chakrams spin together, increasing the difficulty. Always watch both, dodge continuously in the direction they are moving.
Ambush: A surprise attack from behind, creating a semi-circular ring of fire. Dodge to the side, avoiding the affected area.
Strategy
- Focus on dodging, don’t be greedy for attacks.
- Counterattack after Ambush.
- Continue to use Immobilize and combos when you have the opportunity.
After defeating the Green-Capped Martialist, a cutscene will appear, vines will grow around the area, and many watermelons will appear, and you will learn the Spell-Binder Spell.
The journey to defeat the Green-Capped Martialist is not easy, from tracking down the Treasure Hunter, preparing equipment, to facing his “annoying” attacks. However, with the right strategy, patience, and a bit of “daredevil spirit,” you can absolutely overcome this challenge.
The most important thing is not to be discouraged. Consider each “fall” a lesson, adjust your strategy, and try again. The Spell-Binder Spell reward will certainly be very useful in the challenging battles ahead.
Hopefully, this guide has provided you with the necessary and useful information. Share your experience and strategy in the comments below! Good luck, Destined Ones, and see you in the next challenges of Black Myth: Wukong!
