Black Myth: Wukong is not only a visually stunning action role-playing game (ARPG), but also a world filled with countless secrets waiting for brave gamers to discover. One of the “tough” but extremely rewarding challenges is conquering the four secret dragons – Loong Dragons. Defeating them not only brings glory, but also opens up the opportunity to own the legendary weapon Golden Loong Staff and the cool Yellow Loong transformation.
This article is your guide. With the “real combat” experience of a veteran gamer, combined with detailed information from reputable sources such as IGN and in-depth video guides, I will provide you with step-by-step instructions, along with “top-notch” tips so you can confidently “overcome” successfully. Consider this your “martial arts manual” in the world of Black Myth: Wukong!
Collecting Loong Scales
Before “engaging” with the powerful dragons, you need the “key” to open the secret door leading to them. That “key” is Loong Scales – a hidden item in Chapter 2 of the game. To get it, you need to progress to this stage, after having confronted and defeated the boss duo King of Flowing Sands and Second Rat Prince. There is a slight difference in the process of finding Loong Scales depending on which boss you defeat first, but don’t worry too much, I will guide you in detail for both cases.
After that “fiery” battle, find your way to the nearest Shrine and enter the cave. In the cave, look for a special wall, where there are many small, intricately carved statues. This is where you need to “take action”! To break this wall, you have two options:
One is to lure the First Prince of Flowing Sands – the “tough” boss that you will encounter later – to charge straight into the wall with a devastating headbutt.
Two, if you prefer to “do it yourself”, use the Wandering Wight Spirit and perform a “head bash” attack to break the wall.
When the wall collapses, a crack will appear, leading you into a secret room. Open the chest there, and the Loong Scales will be yours. As soon as you touch this item, a mysterious voice will sound. Don’t be too alarmed, it’s actually a good sign, showing that you’re on the right track on your journey to conquer the secret dragons!
The Journey to Conquer the Dragons
Now, with the Loong Scales in your possession, you are ready to face the real challenge: conquering the four powerful Loong Dragons. Each dragon has its own unique characteristics, attacks, and rewards. Let’s explore this arduous but also extremely interesting journey with me!
Red Loong (Chapter 1)
The first dragon you will encounter is Red Loong, hidden in Chapter 1. To find him, you need to return to the Black Wind Mountain area. Use the Shrine to teleport to Outside the Forest. From here, follow the path, sticking to the left side until you reach the area behind.
You will see a large waterfall – that is where Red Loong hides.
Once you reach the waterfall, find a location where you can interact. If you have the Loong Scales, you will be able to use them to “vanish” the waterfall, opening a secret pathway leading to Loong Claw Grove – Red Loong‘s lair.
Red Loong is a Thunder-type dragon, with powerful attacks and the ability to move flexibly. However, he also has a weakness: the electric nodes on his back. When Red Loong is staggered, take advantage of this opportunity to attack the electric nodes, dealing massive damage. Defeating Red Loong, you will receive Thunder Tail – an important material for crafting weapons – and Boshan Censer – an item that helps increase your defense when your health potion (Gourd) is depleted.
Black Loong (Chapter 2)
Next on the journey is Black Loong, the ruler of Chapter 2. To find him, go to the Rockrest Flat Keeper’s Shrine in the Yellow Wind Ridge area. From the Shrine, turn right and go up the stairs. You will encounter a Spearbone monster (if you haven’t defeated it before).
Past this monster, you will see a sandfall.
Use the Loong Scales to interact with the sandfall, it will disappear, opening the entrance to Hidden Loong Cavern – where Black Loong is waiting.
Black Loong is a formidable opponent, with two extremely dangerous electric maces. He has slow but powerful attacks, and especially the “ground stomp” attack that creates a spreading electric wave. To avoid this attack, quickly jump onto the rocks in the combat area.
The reward for defeating Black Loong is Thunder Bone – another weapon crafting material – and Tridacna Pendant – an item that reduces the cooldown of all spells.
Cyan Loong (Chapter 3)
Unlike the previous two dragons, Cyan Loong does not require you to interact with any object to unlock. Instead, you just need to proceed to Bitter Lake and Turtle Island Keeper’s Shrine in Chapter 3.
Once you are able to interact with the Shrine, turn to face the lake. Walk towards the edge of the cliff, and you will start to hear the familiar voice. Look down below, slightly to the left, and you will see a stone dragon statue.
Approach the statue, and it will “awaken” and transform into Cyan Loong, ready to fight. Cyan Loong is a combination of a dragon and a swordsman, with attacks that are both powerful and graceful. He also uses Thunder-type attacks, so be prepared with anti-Shock medicine if needed.
When you defeat Cyan Loong, you will be rewarded with a treasure chest near the waterfall, containing Breath of Fire Soak and Mountain-Shaking Core. More importantly, you will unlock the recipe for crafting the legendary weapon Golden Loong Staff!
Yellow Loong (Chapter 4)
The final dragon on this journey is Yellow Loong, hidden in Chapter 4. To find him, you need to go to the Cliff of Oblivion Keeper’s Shrine. Pass through the corridor behind the Shrine, and you will face Buddha’s Right Hand.
After defeating Buddha’s Right Hand, it will turn into a bridge for you to go down. Continue to follow the path, you will see a turn to the left leading to a wooden bridge. Cross this bridge, go up the stairs, and enter a corridor full of cobwebs.
At the end of the corridor, you will see an area with light and hanging cocoons. Carefully cross this area (you can dodge or destroy the spiders in the cocoons). Continue up the stairs, and you will reach an area with grass, and the familiar voice will sound again.
Follow the path uphill, and you will see another Shrine – Relief of the Fallen Loong Keeper’s Shrine.
From here, go up the stairs on the right, and you will see a figure waiting. That is Yellow Loong. Yellow Loong is one of the most difficult bosses in the game, with long combo attacks and an unblockable “critical” attack. Using medicine is the key to survival and learning his attacks.
When you defeat Yellow Loong, a cutscene will play, and you will receive Sea-Supporting Tendon – the final material for crafting the weapon – along with Cun Steel and Golden Carp. In particular, you can interact with Yellow Loong‘s spear to receive the Golden Lining transformation spell – transforming into Yellow Loong himself!
So you have completed a challenging but also extremely rewarding journey: conquering the four mysterious Loong Dragons, collecting valuable materials, and finally crafting the legendary weapon Golden Loong Staff. Not only that, you also have the opportunity to experience the Golden Lining transformation, transforming into the majestic Yellow Loong.
This journey is not only a test of your skills, but also a testament to the perseverance, determination, and unceasing spirit of exploration of a true gamer.
