Surely, those of you who are grinding through Black Myth: Wukong have already “encountered” quite a few tough bosses. And if you’ve reached Bitter Lake, then congratulations (or condolences), you’re about to face Kang-Jin Star – the human form of Kang-Jin Loong, and also a very annoying Yaoguai King (a high-level boss). Defeating her is a mandatory task for you to rescue Zhu Bajie and continue the journey of exploring the game’s fascinating story.
This article will not beat around the bush with game introductions, but go straight to the point: Providing you with a detailed, comprehensive guide “all about” Kang-Jin Star’s attacks, along with strategies, tips, and useful equipment/spells to “deal with” her. We guarantee that after reading this, you will be much more confident when facing this electric “big sister.” We’ve “taken a beating” quite a bit from this boss, so the experiences below are all “blood and bones”!
Location and Recommended Loadout
Kang-Jin Star doesn’t just appear randomly, she “resides” in a very specific location in the game. To find her, you need to reach Bitter Lake, specifically Turtle Island – a small island located in this area.
You will reach Bitter Lake during the main quest of Chapter 3. You need to pass through the Pagoda Realm and then the Temple of Warding. These are two areas with quite a few enemies and traps, so be careful. After exiting the Temple of Warding, you will see a large slope. Just slide straight down and you will reach Turtle Island. A cutscene will play, and immediately after, you will “bump” into Kang-Jin Star.
Kang-Jin Star Boss Fight and Guide
Kang-Jin Star has a fairly diverse skill set, mainly revolving around the element of electricity. She can attack from a distance, close range, and even in the air. For ease of tracking, we will divide her attacks into two phases:
Phase 1: (When her hair is still black)
Serpent Sparks: Kang-Jin Star summons small lightning bolts shaped like snakes, flying around her. After a short period of time, she will control them to rush straight towards you. Pay attention to the movement of Kang-Jin Star and the lightning bolts. When you see her wave her hand or show signs of control, dodge to the side. This move is quite fast, so it requires good reflexes. Don’t try to attack while she’s summoning, focus on dodging first.
Tremors Forge Thunder: Kang-Jin Star shouts “Tremors forge thunder,” creating electric circles on the ground. After a short delay, these circles will explode, dealing electric damage. These circles will follow you for a short time before exploding. Keep moving and dodge at the moment the circle is about to explode (when you see her emitting electricity). Initially, she only creates one circle. Later on, the number of circles will increase. Don’t be greedy to attack, keep a safe distance.
Clashes Form Bolts: Usually appears after Tremors Forge Thunder, Kang-Jin Star shouts “clashes form bolts” and shoots a straight lightning bolt towards you. Dodge to the side. This lightning bolt is quite fast, so you need to focus. The Tremors Forge Thunder + Clashes Form Bolts combo is a basic attack sequence of hers, get used to its rhythm.
Spin and Flush: Kang-Jin Star shouts “Spin…,” delivering two consecutive close-range electric slashes, then shouts “and flush!” and performs a third attack. The first two slashes can be dodged by dodging backward or sideways. The third attack has two variations:
Variation 1: A downward slash from above.
Variation 2: Creates a cross-shaped slash that spreads out in front.
Lightning Burst: Kang-Jin Star charges up, creating an extremely fast electric explosion right in front of her. When you see her put her hands forward and gather electricity, retreat immediately. The speed of the attack is extremely fast. This attack interrupts your attacks, forcing you to keep your distance.
Phase 2: (When her hair turns white, after losing about half her health)
In this phase, Kang-Jin Star will become stronger and have some new attacks, and the old attacks are also “upgraded”:
Yield to Your True Self: Kang-Jin Star flies up, creating a large electric field around her, followed by an electric ring spreading out on the ground. Retreat far away when you see her create the electric field. Jump or use Pillar Stance to avoid the electric ring. The electric ring only spreads horizontally, so if you stand on a rock or sloped terrain, it will go below you.
Lightning Spear: Kang-Jin Star creates a lightning spear, flies down, and throws it straight to the ground. After a delay, the spear will explode. Dodge when she throws the spear. Then, stay away from the area where the spear fell to avoid the explosion.
Electric Bolt Clusters: Kang-Jin Star summons many small clusters of lightning, which float and then rush towards you. Cannot be parried. Use Cloud Step or dodge continuously.
Kang-Jin Star is definitely one of the “tough” challenges in Black Myth: Wukong. However, by mastering her attacks, applying the right strategy, and a little patience, you can completely “clear the stage” successfully.
Hopefully, this guide will help you on your journey to conquer Black Myth: Wukong. Good luck and have fun “try hard” hours!
