Location and Important Warning
To encounter the King of Flowing Sands and Second Rat Prince, start from the Village Entrance Shrine (teleport point) at Sandgate Village. Go up, turn right, pass the sealed village gate, and you will encounter a Rat Governor and two Rat Captains guarding a valley on both ends. The large door on the right is the “gate” you need to pass. But before you charge in, remember this IMPORTANT WARNING: Although the boss‘s name is King of Flowing Sands, the real target is Second Rat Prince. And ONLY WHEN you defeat the King of Flowing Sands FIRST will the Second Rat Prince drop the Second Rat Prince Spirit – a very important item. Missing it means you have to start over (New Game+)!
King of Flowing Sands and Second Rat Prince Boss Fight and Guide
Overall Strategy
The battle with the King of Flowing Sands and Second Rat Prince will take place in three main phases, requiring you to flexibly change your tactics:
Phase 1: Dealing with Both
The King of Flowing Sands will not directly engage in combat. Instead, he will hide behind the Second Rat Prince, burrow into the ground, or climb onto the surrounding pillars to throw rocks at you. Meanwhile, the Second Rat Prince will continuously attack you with his spiked mace, with wide sweeping, thrusting, and ground slamming attacks.
Tip: “Borrow the strength” of the Second Rat Prince himself! By standing between him and the King of Flowing Sands, you can make him throw rocks at his own son.
Tip: Lure Second Rat Prince to attack the stone pillars. When pillar falls, King of Flowing Sands falls, gives your chance to attack.
Phase 2: Defeating the King
When the King of Flowing Sands is exposed (falls from the pillar, runs out of hiding places), focus all your attacks on him. He has a fairly “modest” amount of health and moves slowly, so this is a golden opportunity to finish him off.
Tip: Before attacking the King of Flowing Sands, try to reduce the Second Rat Prince‘s health as low as possible. This will make it easier for you to deal with him when he becomes enraged.
Phase 3: Enraged Second Prince
After witnessing the King of Flowing Sands‘s demise, the Second Rat Prince will transform, becoming much stronger:
His attacks will create fissures on the ground, causing area-of-effect damage.
He will have new attacks, such as jumping up and slamming his mace down, creating a circle of fissures, or throwing his mace and charging forward, which is extremely dangerous.
In this phase, dodging is the best policy. Focus on dodging his attacks and only counterattack when you have a real opportunity.
Second Prince’s Attacks and How to Dodge
To survive the wrath of the Second Rat Prince, you need to memorize his attacks and how to dodge them effectively. Remember that his attacks will change after the King of Flowing Sands is defeated:
Basic Attacks (when the King of Flowing Sands is alive)
Dashing Stab: The Second Rat Prince lunges forward and thrusts his spiked mace at you. Back away or dodge to the side.
Ground Slam: He repeatedly slams his mace into the ground. Keep your distance and dodge continuously, don’t rush to attack until he pulls his mace up.
Three-Hit Sweep: The Second Rat Prince sweeps his mace three times in a row. Time it and dodge the last attack, then counterattack.
Headbutt Slam: Headbutts the ground, dodge to side to avoid and give you chances for attacks.
Mace Throw: The Second Rat Prince spins and throws his mace at you. Recognize when he starts spinning and dodge to the side, then be careful of his subsequent charge attack.
Enhanced Attacks (when the King of Flowing Sands is dead)
Fissures: Most of the Second Rat Prince‘s attacks will now create fissures on the ground, causing area-of-effect damage. You need space to dodge, it’s best to back away or dodge to the side, depending on the direction of the fissure.
Jumping Slam: He jumps up high and slams his mace down, creating a circle of fissures. Back away as soon as he jumps up.
Mace Throw + Dive Attack: Throws mace, charge forward to collect, deals damage on the way and when retrieving. Dodge, then immediately dodge again, Do not try to attack.
Chain Thrust: Run to your right, then use heavy attack.
