Black Myth: Wukong is making waves in the gaming community, not only for its stunning graphics but also for its diverse and challenging boss system. Besides the main storyline bosses, the game also hides many interesting optional bosses, and Mother of Stones is one of them. Unlike direct confrontations, Mother of Stones offers a unique combat experience that requires patience and clever tactics. This article will not only guide you on how to “deal with” this stone mother, but also reveal tips and small details that you may not know, based on my dozens of hours of “grinding” experience. The goal of the article is to provide you with a detailed guide, explaining every nook and cranny of the battle, so that you not only win but also understand why you win.
Location and Important Warning
Mother of Stones is a Yaoguai Chief that you will encounter in Chapter 2 of Black Myth: Wukong. The special thing that makes this “mother” famous is: she doesn’t attack you at all. Instead, Mother of Stones will continuously summon Palestones to protect herself.
The location of Mother of Stones is in the Fright Cliff area, more specifically near the Squall Hideout Shrine. To get here, after you defeat the King of Flowing Sands and the Second Rat Prince, go to the right and cross the rope bridge.
Inside the Fright Cliff area, go past the Squall Hideout Shrine, keep left to enter a large cave. Continue to turn left, you will see Mother of Stones “standing there” – a large statue covered with crystals, not moving at all.
Mother of Stones Boss Fight and Guide
Before “engaging” with Mother of Stones, thorough preparation is extremely important. Here are a few suggestions, based on my hard-earned experience:
Weapon: Prioritize weapons that can deal area-of-effect damage or have a fast attack speed. Since you will have to deal with many Palestones at once, the ability to “sweep” quickly is an advantage. The Staff with its spinning attacks is a good choice.
- Armor: Choose armor with high physical defense, as the Palestones‘ attacks are mainly physical damage.
- A Pluck of Many: Extremely useful for distracting and dealing damage to multiple Palestones at once.
- Immobilize: Helps you control one Palestone while focusing on dealing with others.
- Cloud Step: Helps you dodge the Palestones‘ ranged attacks easily.
- Items: Don’t forget to bring enough healing potions and buff items if you have them.
- Skills: Focus on dodging skills and parrying skills. Good dodging and parrying skills will help you survive longer.
- Stances: Choose the stance suitable for your weapons. If you are using staff, it is recommended to utilize stances that offer combo attacks.
Remember, Mother of Stones will continuously summon Palestones. Every time it roars, be prepared, because one (or more) Palestone will appear immediately after.
Always prioritize eliminating the Palestones before attacking the Mother of Stones. It sounds obvious, but many players (including myself when I first started playing) often rush to attack the Mother of Stones directly, and end up being “ganged up” by the Palestones.
Wave 1 & 2: Each wave, one Palestone will appear. This is the “warm-up” phase, helping you get familiar with their attacks. Tip: Keep your distance, dodge attacks, and focus your fire on one at a time.
Wave 3 & 4: Each wave, two Palestones will appear at the same time. This is when things get tougher. Strategy: Use Immobilize on one to reduce pressure, utilize attacks with special effects (Spirit attacks), and move constantly to avoid being trapped. Advanced tip: If you have A Pluck of Many, use it to gain a numerical advantage. Don’t forget to heal when needed!
Total: You will have to defeat a total of 6 Palestones.
After “cleaning up” the Palestones, the Mother of Stones will become completely harmless. This is when you unleash all your damage on it until the boss is destroyed.
After defeating Mother of Stones, you will receive Stone Essence, which is what the Man-In-Stone is looking for. Giving the Stone Essence to the Man-In-Stone will help you complete his quest.
Defeating Mother of Stones is not too difficult a challenge, but it requires patience, focus, and a reasonable strategy. Remember: Prioritize eliminating Palestones, dodge and parry well, and don’t be afraid to experiment. With this detailed guide, along with the little tips I’ve shared, I hope you’ll easily “handle” this stone mother and complete the Man-In-Stone‘s quest. Good luck and have a great time “fighting” the game!
