Tiger’s Acolyte – Black Myth: Wukong

Surely, fellow gamers delving into Black Myth: Wukong have heard of the Tiger’s Acolyte – a seemingly ordinary “minion” who has caused many players grief. Don’t underestimate him! Although he’s just an optional boss (a boss not required to beat to progress), the Tiger’s Acolyte is not only a formidable challenge but also holds the key to a very interesting hidden quest – the Old Rattle-Drum quest. This article will “dissect” everything about him, from his location, build (character build), to each move and tips to defeat him, ensuring you’ll “deal with” this tiger!

In terms of personal experience, I’ve “taken a beating” quite a bit from this boss before finding the “truth”. This article is not only based on my “blood, sweat, and tears” but also compiled from many reputable sources such as IGN, Fandom, Game8, and YouTube tutorial videos. You can rest assured “referencing” it!

Location and Important Warning

The Tiger’s Acolyte doesn’t “wander” around, but “guards” a fixed location. You can find him in the Yellow Wind Formation area, specifically at Windrest Hamlet.

Everyone will start from the Windrest Hamlet Shrine. Go straight and cross the first bridge.

Continue straight, you will see a second bridge. The Tiger’s Acolyte will be standing right in the middle of that bridge, waiting for you to “test your skills”.

Unlike normal battles, the confrontation with the Tiger’s Acolyte takes place on a NARROW bridge. That’s right, just a little carelessness, you can be knocked off the cliff and… “game over” immediately, regardless of how much health you have. Keep this in mind, because it will greatly affect your strategy.

Tiger’s Acolyte Boss Fight and Guide

The Tiger’s Acolyte has a fairly diverse set of moves, combining swords and claws, along with the ability to move quickly.

Sword Attacks

3-hit combo (roll): He will roll towards you, slashing 3 times continuously. Move back or dodge to the sides. This attack has a fairly wide range, dodging a little early is safer.

Spinning Slash: He spins and slashes in a wide circle. Move back or time your jump. This attack has “knockback”, be careful not to fall off the bridge.

Stab: Stands with sword horizontal to the body and thrusts. Evade completely by using Pillar Stance. Or by dodging sideways. Use this opportunity to counter with a Resolute Strike.

Two upward slashes: He slashes twice from bottom to top. Often appears before more complex combos. Be careful, prepare to dodge the next attacks.

Humble slash and stab: He sheathes his sword (like iaido), then quickly slashes and stabs. The stab can be dodged to the side. He may vary it a bit, but it’s basically still slashes and stabs.

Claw Attacks

Quick Claw (4 hits + stab): He raises his claws high, lunges forward and claws 4 times continuously, then stabs his claws forward. Dodge to the side continuously. The final stab has a fairly long range, don’t be careless.

Claw + kick + roll + slash: His claws will glow. Then he claws, kicks, rolls forward and slashes. Time your dodges for each attack, or use Immobilize to stop the combo. This is one of his most dangerous combos, be careful.

Jump Attacks

Normal jump slash: He jumps up and slashes down. Dodge to the side.

Aerial jump slash: He jumps high, hovers for a moment, then slashes down. Use Immobilize when he’s about to land, or dodge very quickly.

After you successfully “overcome the challenge”, these are the “spoils of war” you will receive: Old Rattle-Drum, this is a Key Item, essential to start and complete the hidden Old Rattle-Drum quest.

So, you now have the “secret” to dealing with the Tiger’s Acolyte! From the location, the treacherous terrain, character building, to each move and counter-tips, hopefully this article has equipped you with enough “weapons” to “deal with” this annoying boss.

Remember, there is no perfect strategy. The important thing is that you are flexible, experiment, and find the way to play that suits you best. Don’t be afraid to “trial and error,” because that’s how you improve and conquer more difficult challenges in Black Myth: Wukong.
