Surely, all Destined Ones venturing into the mystical world of Black Myth: Wukong are familiar with Venom Daoist – one of the challenging Yaoguai Chiefs in Chapter 4. Not only is he a formidable challenge, but defeating him also unlocks the path to the secret area of Purple Cloud Mountain. This article will be a detailed guide, providing you with all the necessary information about his location, strategies, and secrets related to Venom Daoist. From firsthand experience after dozens of hours of “getting wrecked” in Rosy Cheeks, Gray Hair (Chapter 4), I will share the most effective tips and tactics, helping you not only overcome this challenge but also fully explore the exciting things that Black Myth: Wukong offers. Let’s begin the journey to conquer Venom Daoist!
Location
Venom Daoist first appears in the Webbed Hollow area, specifically at the Pool of Shattered Jade. To get there, start from the nearest Shrine at the Pool of Shattered Jade.
From the Shrine, go to the right, and you will see a small path leading through an area with many Clawed Cocoons hanging. Just go straight, ignoring those cocoons. At the end of the path, you will see another unusually large cocoon – the Odd Cocoon. That’s where you need to go.
The second encounter with the Venom Daoist takes place in the Temple of Yellow Flowers. this time, you will begin from the Court of Illumination Shrine. From this Shrine, turn back the way you came in (the opposite direction from when you arrived at the Shrine). Go straight, past two Staff Daoists. Continue following the main path, and you will go up a slope. When you reach the top of the slope, you will see a fork: one path goes down to the left and one path goes down to the right. Choose the path on the left. Go down the slope a bit, and you will enter a large cave – where Venom Daoist is waiting.
Venom Daoist Boss Fight and Guide
First Encounter
Phase 1: Odd Cocoon
Feel free to “smash” the cocoon until it breaks. Nothing special in this phase.
Phase 2: Venom Daoist This is where things get started. Venom Daoist has many arms, and he will use them to attack you continuously. Here are some of his main attacks and how to deal with them:
Dual Slash: He holds two swords on both sides, lunges to slash you from the right. Then, he will roll and stab his sword into the ground, then jump up and slam down. Dodge to the left and behind him when he slashes. Dodge to the side when he stabs his sword into the ground. Jump to avoid the final slam. Then, you can freely attack while he is recovering.
Fast Dash: He holds one sword across his waist, one raised high behind his back, and then dashes extremely fast towards you. Dodge to the side. But be careful, he will dash again immediately after. Dodge a second time, or lure him to dash into a corner so he gets stuck.
Overhand Slash + Leap: He slashes from above, then jumps up to attack. Dodge the slash, then dodge the jump.
Double Slash + Dash: He pulls two swords to the left, slashes twice quickly, then dashes forward. Dodge the first two slashes, and be prepared for the dash. You can use Rock Solid to block this dash and stun him.
Strategy
- Focus your attacks on his extra arms. Destroying them will deal significant damage and weaken him.
- Use Immobilize when he is nearby to gain more time to attack.
- Spirit Attacks are very effective for dealing damage to multiple arms at once.
- When he has low health, he will become more aggressive, attacking faster and more frequently. Be careful.
Second Encounter
Sword Throw: He throws a sword at you, then dashes to pick up the sword and slashes with the remaining one. Dodge the flying sword, then be careful of the slash when he dashes.
Floating Sword Toss: He jumps up, floats, and throws two swords consecutively at you. Then, he will slam down and slash when he picks up the swords. Be careful to time your dodges for the two swords. Dodge his downward slam.
Twirling Slashes: He crouches, holds his swords, and slashes continuously while advancing towards you. Very difficult to dodge; it’s best to keep your distance or try to deflect if you’re confident.
High Stance Combo: He raises both swords high, slashes continuously four times, then spins his swords and delivers a powerful slash. Keeping your distance is best.
Flood of Blood: He holds one sword in a reverse grip, lunges forward, slashes three times quickly, then jumps up and slams down hard. Be careful of the first three slashes, then jump to avoid the slam. He will have a sweeping slash when he gets up.
General Strategies
- Attack the arms: The top priority is to destroy his extra arms.
- Keep your distance: Many of Venom Daoist‘s attacks are very dangerous at close range.
- Dodge and counterattack: Learn to time your dodges for his attacks, then take advantage of opportunities to counterattack.
- Use skills: Immobilize, Spirit Attacks, and Rock Solid are all very useful.
After the “struggle” with the Venom Daoist, you will get the Venomous Armguard – if you’re “pro” enough to break the back four arms (not the top two arms) of the Venom Daoist in your first encounter, you’ll get this unique piece of equipment. and you’ll unlock Purple Cloud Mountain – a secret area of Chapter 4.
