Don’t be discouraged if you’ve been “smashed” a few times by the Wandering Wight. This guide will not only focus on “memorizing” his attacks but also point out “smart” strategies to make the battle easier. Get ready to “pocket” some cool tips to “deal” with this giant!
Location and Important Warning
To find the Wandering Wight, you need to start from the Outside the Forest Shrine in the Forest of Wolves area of Black Wind Mountain. From here, go straight ahead; you will pass two enemies and encounter a third. Continue past this enemy, turn right, and you will see the Wandering Wight patrolling in a large area.
Extremely Important Warning: The Wandering Wight will disappear if you defeat Elder Jinchi before facing him. Therefore, make sure you “deal with” the Wandering Wight before progressing too far into the story. If you miss it, you will have to wait until New Game+ to have a chance to rematch.
Before fighting the Wandering Wight, you should allocate points to get 2 focus points because when you hit him with a 2-focus-point heavy attack, he will fall and lose the attack he is about to perform. As mentioned, take advantage of the terrain to “sneak up” on the Wandering Wight from behind. Unleash a charged heavy attack to deal massive damage right from the start.
Guangzhi Mini-Boss Fight and Guide
The Wandering Wight has several main attacks that you need to understand.
Stomps: Usually two consecutive stomps, quite easy to dodge if you time it right. Press the dodge button when his foot just touches the ground.
Spins: After stomping, he can spin to attack. Be careful because he can spin 2-3 times in a row. Time it and dodge backward.
Earthquake: He raises his hand high and slams it down on the ground, creating shockwaves. This is the most dangerous attack. When you see him raise his hand, be prepared to dodge, or better yet, use Immobilize immediately.
Energy Wave: After the earthquake attack, he often “shoots” out a wave of energy. Dodge to the side when you see him “charging up.”
Note: Sometimes, he will perform a very fast Leaping stomp attack, requiring focus.
This is the crux of the strategy. Instead of just using Immobilize to interrupt the earthquake attack, use it whenever possible. When the Wandering Wight is immobilized, attack continuously with light attacks and heavy attacks to “stagger” him. After about 3 “staggers,” he will fall down, giving you an opportunity to deal more damage.
If you are low on health and don’t have Immobilize, use Red Tides to transform. In Guangzhi form, you have a new health bar and can attack continuously to “heal” (actually dealing damage to extend the transformation time). Take advantage of combos and special skills (dodging an attack and then using the heavy attack button) to deal massive damage. This is just a “temporary fix”; don’t overuse it.
After defeating the Wandering Wight, you will receive Cat’s Eye Beads; Stone Spirit; 691 Will; 1,049 Experience; Wandering Wight Spirit, this is the most important reward. Initially, you cannot “Absorb” this spirit immediately. You need to meet the Ancient Master in the Bamboo Grove to upgrade the Gourd. After upgrading, you can absorb the Wandering Wight Spirit through the Shrine in the Cultivate Spirits section.
