Who is Xu Dog? Simply put, Xu Dog is a kind NPC and a talented merchant. Completing Xu Dog‘s quests not only helps you better understand the story but also unlocks extremely important abilities. Let’s learn more about Xu Dog.
Meeting and Beginning – Chapter 2: Sandgate Village
To start this exciting quest chain, you need to first meet Xu Dog at Sandgate Village. This location is quite close to the Village Entrance Shrine.
From the Village Entrance Shrine, follow the main road. You will see a wooden bridge. Do not cross the bridge! Instead, look down below, and you will see a small ditch. Follow that ditch; it will lead you to a tunnel. Go into the tunnel, and you will find Xu Dog on the other side.
Xu Dog will complain to you that a giant frog has swallowed his precious medicine formula. And you, the Destined One, are the one Xu Dog relies on to retrieve the formula.
This frog is named Lang-Li-Guhh-Baw, a mini-boss with the ability to attack with electricity. After defeating Lang-Li-Guhh-Baw, you will pick up the Evil Repelling Medicament formula.
Return to Xu Dog (the location where you first met him). Give him the Evil Repelling Medicament formula.
Rewards:
2 bottles of Evil Repelling Medicament (medicine to ward off evil).
Unlocks the ability to craft Mortal Medicine at any Shrine. This is an extremely important skill, helping you survive and fight more effectively throughout your journey.
Upgrading Abilities – Chapter 2: Crouching Tiger Temple
Before you can meet Xu Dog again and unlock new abilities, you need to complete an important challenge: defeat the two bosses, Stone Vanguard and Tiger Vanguard. By defeating these two bosses, you will receive two important items: Sternness of Stone and Keeness of Tiger.
Defeating these two bosses is part of the main storyline, so you cannot skip it.
After obtaining Sternness of Stone and Keeness of Tiger, go to Crouching Tiger Temple. Find a headless statue and interact with the “tally” nearby. This action will open a secret passage leading down to the Crouching Tiger Temple Cellar.
This dungeon is full of dangerous enemies; be careful! You will have to fight through many waves of monsters. Go through a cave. Slide down a long slope. At the end of the slope, you will find the Crouching Tiger Temple’s Cellar Shrine. Xu Dog is waiting for you in the corner of the cellar, near a large furnace.
When you find and talk to Xu Dog, he’ll give you a Mind Core. This is a very important items and will unlock the ability to craft Celestial Medicines.
These are special medicines that provide permanent stat buff effects to your character. The stats that are enhanced include: maximum health, mana, stamina, crit chance, and resistance to afflictions.
Important: You can reset and reallocate the Mind Core points used. This allows you to experiment with different character builds or adjust stats to suit each stage of the game.
Zodiac Village – Chapter 3: North Shore of the Bitter Lake
When you reach the North Shore of the Bitter Lake, you will have the opportunity to meet Chen Loong, an old dragon. Chen Loong is located on the shore of the lake; you can find him after a battle. Initially, Chen Loong will attack you. Be prepared for a tough fight! After being defeated, Chen Loong will lament his weak health and express his desire to drink Xu Dog‘s medicine.
You need to return to the Crouching Tiger Temple’s Cellar (where you last met Xu Dog). Talk to Xu Dog, and he will give you the medicine that Chen Loong needs.
Bring the medicine back to the North Shore of the Bitter Lake and give it to Chen Loong.
In return for your kindness, Chen Loong will give you an extremely important item: the Ruyi Scroll. This item will unlock a new area: Zodiac Village.
Zodiac Village is a special location, gathering many important merchants, including Xu Dog.
Important: Xu Dog will move to Zodiac Village. This means that from now on, you will no longer be able to find him in the Crouching Tiger Temple’s Cellar.
Shop and Crafting (at Zodiac Village)
After Xu Dog moves to Zodiac Village, you can visit him regularly to purchase items, crafting formulas, and especially to receive free medicine!
Xu Dog sells many useful items and formulas, and his inventory will be updated according to your progress in the game. Below is a list of items/formulas that can be purchased (note that prices may vary):
Chapter 2: Longevity Decoction Formula: 2700 Will (a type of in-game currency).
Chapter 3: Mirage Pill (x3) – 720 Will; Enhanced Tiger Subduing Pellets (x3) – 900 Will; Tonifying Decoction Formula – 2700 Will.
Chapter 4: Body Fleeting Powder (x3) – 540 Will; Loong Aura Amplification Pellets (x3) – 1080 Will; Ascension Powder (x3) – 900 Will; Essence Decoction Formula – 2700 Will.
Free Medicine: Don’t forget to visit Xu Dog periodically to receive free medicine! This is a very useful source of medicine, helping you save a lot of resources.
