Yellow Loong… This name has probably made many Black Myth: Wukong gamers “break out in a cold sweat”. It’s no coincidence that this hidden boss is ranked among the most “difficult” challenges in the game. But don’t be discouraged! This article will not only be a regular guide, but a detailed “secret”, compiled from the real combat experience of a “veteran” – me.
We will “dissect” every nook and cranny of the battle with Yellow Loong: from his “secluded” location, to his most powerful “ultimate moves”, and of course, the “worthy” rewards that await. Consider this a “guiding light” so that you not only survive, but also “crush” this annoying golden dragon. Ready?
Location and Recommended Loadout
Unlike other “easy” bosses, Yellow Loong chooses a rather “private” hiding place for himself. To find him, you need to set foot in Webbed Hollow, more specifically the Relief of the Fallen Loong area.
- From the Shrine at Relief of the Fallen Loong, follow the path ahead.
- You will soon encounter a rope bridge. Go straight ahead!
- After the second rope bridge (beware of the annoying Clawed Cocoons, you can use Cloud Step to dash past them), you will exit the cave.
- Continue going up, you will see an area with a roof – where Yellow Loong is “resting”.
But! Don’t rush to “charge”. To “challenge” Yellow Loong, you need to have a special “pass”: Loong Scales. And this “ticket” is not “easy” at all. If you don’t have Loong Scales yet, you can read this article to learn how to get them.
Never underestimate Yellow Loong, no matter how “tough” you are. He’s not the type of “grass boss” for you to “fight barehanded”. Prepare carefully, and here’s what you need:
- Loongscale Armor is a great choice. It not only increases defense, but also reduces the time you are affected by the Shocked effect – a “specialty” of Yellow Loong. If you don’t have it yet, try to get enough materials and upgrade it.
- Shock-Quelling Powder: An indispensable “panacea”. Yellow Loong will constantly “gift” you with the Shocked effect, and this medicine will help you “escape” quickly.
- Umbral Abyss: This transformation is not only “cool looking”, but it can also deal high damage and chill Yellow Loong, slowing him down.
Yellow Loong Boss Fight and Guide
The battle with Yellow Loong can be divided into two main phases, based on his level of “aggression”. However, instead of separating them, we will “dissect” each attack and strategy for each phase right in this section, so you can easily follow and adapt.
Phase 1: Warm-up
Thrust: Yellow Loong lunges forward, thrusting his weapon straight at you. Back away or dodge to the side.
Spinning Strike: He spins around, slashing his weapon twice, then slams it down, dealing lightning damage. Back away when he spins, then dodge to the side when he slams his weapon down.
Downward Slashes: Two quick slashes from above. Dodge to the side.
Sweeping Spin: Spins the weapon around, creating a wave of electricity around him. Dodge towards him, or back away.
Double Slashes + Arc: Two slashes down, then swings the weapon in a large arc, creating a wave of electricity. Dodge towards him, or back away. This move will have an additional lightning explosion afterwards, be careful.
Backstab + Overhead Slam: Stabs you with the back end of his weapon, then jumps up and slams down, dealing lightning damage. Dodge to the side when he stabs, then back away when he jumps up. This move will also have an additional lightning explosion.
Unblockable Grab: If he hits you with the back end of his weapon, he will perform an unblockable grab, dealing massive damage and the Shocked effect. Be extremely careful and dodge to the side when he prepares this move.
Phase 1 Overall Strategy
Focus on dodging and observing his attacks.
Take advantage of the openings after he attacks to counterattack with normal attacks.
Use Immobilize to “lock” his legs and unleash a combo.
Use Rock Solid to block normal attacks and counterattack.
Don’t be too “greedy” with combos, keep a safe distance and be ready to dodge.
Phase 2: “Rage”
Yellow Loong will stop, charge up, and unleash a surge of electricity around him. Immediately after, he will fly into the air and begin his “rage” attacks.
Electrified Dive-bomb: Flies around in the air, then dives straight at you at extremely high speed, accompanied by a lightning effect. Time it precisely and dodge to the side. The timing of the dodge will vary depending on his movements before diving down.
Lightning Slam: Instead of diving straight, he will slam down on your position, creating a large lightning explosion. Time it and dodge to the side.
Cloud Step Counter: He can dodge your attacks by “transforming” into a streak of lightning, then reappearing and counterattacking. Be careful when attacking, and be ready to Deflect when he counterattacks.
Phase 2 Overall Strategy
This is the most dangerous phase. Focus intensely on dodging the Electrified Dive-bomb and Lightning Slam attacks. There are several ways to “break” this chain of attacks:
- Use the Wind Tamer Vessel as soon as he charges up to interrupt.
- If you’re fast enough, unleash a Charged Strike with Thrust Stance to stun him.
Use Rock Solid when he dives down with the first Electrified Dive Bomb.
After “breaking” the chain of attacks, take the opportunity to attack.
Continue to use Immobilize and other skills when you have the chance.
Don’t forget to use Shock-Quelling Powder if you get Shocked.
Important Notes
Yellow Loong is very fast and has many attacks that cause the Shocked effect. Always stay calm and focus on dodging.
Don’t “greedily” attack. Prioritize dodging and counterattacking when you have the opportunity.
Experiment and find the strategy that best suits your playstyle.
After defeating Yellow Loong, you will receive the following rewards:
- Golden Lining Transformation Spell: Allows you to transform into a majestic golden dragon, with powerful attacks and the ability to fly.
- Sea-Supporting Tendon: A rare material, needed to craft “top-tier” weapons.
Defeating Yellow Loong is certainly not an “impossible mission”. With careful preparation, a reasonable strategy, and a little “guts”, you can absolutely “tame” this difficult golden dragon.
Hopefully, with this detailed guide – from location, unlock conditions, preparation, to “ultimate” dodging and counterattacking techniques – you have enough “weapons” to confidently enter the battle. Remember, every failure is a lesson, and don’t hesitate to try different strategies.
